What a night, what a night, what a night! The 3rd annual #SupportYourGirlfriends Pow(H)er Awards presented by Tene Nicole, Marketing and Public Relations was surely a night to remember. Last Tuesday, November 19, 2019, highly accomplished women across various industries convened at Clyde Fazier’s Wine and Dine restaurant to acknowledge and celebrate one another.

Honoree, Tiffany R. Warren of Adcolor & Omnicom looking fabulous and fly!

The place was brimming from wall to wall with like-minded powerhouse women. We conversed, celebrated and stood in awe of each other. I had the opportunity to speak to so many great women who are doing such phenomenal things out in the world. Every woman I spoke to expressed such joy and excitement to celebrate the honorees for the great work that is being done in their respective careers and communities.

Endeavor’s, Michele Gee Thorton reminded us to take advantage of the moments that we experience & soak in all the people around us.

There was a great sense of sisterhood and pride that permeated the space. It was so humbling to see how important it was for these women to be engaged in work that empowered other women and people of color.

How we serve one another, invite a fellow sister to the table, or change another person’s life was at the root of the work being done and the work they hope to continue to see through.

Here are just a few sound bites of what was shared that night…

The Colored Girl touched upon how their work is being redirected to empower women on a day to day basis via the technologies, activations and the experiences they create.

Love & Hip Hop NYC actress & entrepreneur, Yandy Smith shared her focus on creating opportunities to advance our people and employ them by giving them the tools necessary to excel in society.

Gia Lowe from The Curly Girl Collective expressed her gratitude for being a part of the collective voice that celebrates and champions women and people of color.

The sentiments shared came from women working hard to achieve common goals. Regardless of the avenue taken, there was a united intention to make the world a better place for those living in it.

In a society that is so accustomed to dividing and oppressing, it’s nights like these that remind us of our greatness. Creating spaces where women and people of color can commune and elevate one another is not only needed but essential to our growth.

Thank you Nikkia McClain…

for an impactful night of support & sisterhood!

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Victory Jones from the Colored Girl referred to this Afican proverb, and it truly is one to live by. It is together as a united people that we can shift perspective, highlight and advance our strengths and really make a difference in each other’s lives. It’s about showing up in all of your glory and shining a light on your brethren so that together we can be the difference we want to see in the world.
