Chief Social Impact & Communications Officer for BET, visionary leader, game-changer, culture shifter, wife, mom, friend, beam of light and amazing human, we love Jeanine Liburd!

Jeanine is the Chief Social Impact and Communications Officer for BET Networks, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB) and the leading provider of quality entertainment for the African-American audience and consumers of Black culture globally. In her role, she leads and elevate a portfolio of multi-platform social change initiatives that empower BET Networks' audience to have an impact on the critical issues facing the Black community today, while continuing to lead the network’s corporate communications, social responsibility and events teams. She curates and leads initiatives that aim to empower and measurably impact the Black community.  She works closely with the network’s programming, marketing, digital and international teams to utilize content as a catalyst to create awareness and build action oriented impact campaigns – including voter registration, voter suppression and the 2020 census.

A Vasser college grad, Jeanine holds an M.S. in Urban Policy from The New School University for Social Research. She lives in Brooklyn, NY, with her husband and two daughters.

We honor Jeanine for the way she embodies The Colored Girl Core Values:

IMPACT - Jeanine translates emotion into passion to make meaningful progress in a world where, unfortunately, racial strife still exists. She was instrumental in launching the #ReclaimYourVote multi phased social impact campaign, to educate, engage, empower and increase Black Civic Participation in 2020.

WELLNESS - Jeanine travels regularly and maintains balance via fitness, rejuvenation & living a healthy lifestyle.

EXPANSION - In the past, Jeanine found herself working on initiatives at the White House, starting with Vice President Al Gore and his work on issues surrounding fatherhood. While at the White House, she ended up working with the media team. Which later segued her into more media & communications roles. She has held a variety of communications roles at Viacom & BET and has continued to push brand messaging & representation to showcase the myriad of the black experience. Throughout her journey, she has considered issues of intersectionality - gender, being a woman, and race, being black.

SISTERHOOD - She readily champions and shows up for her friends, co-workers, and women she believes in, including being a board member of ColorComm (founded by Lauren Wesley Wilson) and also being a mentor to other women in media & communications.

COLLABORATION - She champions diversity in the workplace and actively promotes hearing from everyone on the team at BET not just the most senior execs and believes that the way to win is to hear all voices.
