IMARA 2020 UPDATE

At The Colored Girl, the health and wellbeing of our community members, associates, affiliates, and staff is the top priority. Due to the nature and severity of the widespread global pandemic, after much advice & deliberation, the retreat is now rescheduled for February 21 - 28, 2021.

After close consultation with our comrades in the retreat industry, guidance from the CDC, and the growing escalation of the Covid-19 outbreak around the world and in the United States, we've made the difficult decision to postpone the IMARA Retreat this July.

The guidance of various health and safety organizations and our commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of our community necessitated the shift. Having spent the past year preparing for the retreat with our advisory boards, speakers, sponsors, and event partners, we're genuinely upset and disappointed not to be able to host you this summer.

As you may have seen many people & organizations have been affected on a worldwide scale. Noteworthy events, from conferences to festivals to sporting events, have been canceled or postponed because of the coronavirus; including SXSW, Coachella, Ultra Music Fest, Tomorrowland, Facebook's annual F8 conference and more. With that number growing steadily to safeguard public health. While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the health & safety of our community members, attendees & staff very seriously, and must act in accordance with government recommendations & regulations for compliance. We can assure you that we are taking every measure possible to keep everyone safe, including working with government officials, to continue monitoring this quickly evolving situation. 

In the meantime, we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols as recommended by the CDC at this time and stay abreast of the best ways to remain safe & in good health. For additional information about COVID-19, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at cdc.gov. 

We want to thank all our customers and partners for their support, open discussions, and encouragement. As everyone has been reminding us, great things happen when the community comes together and connects at IMARA. For this reason, we fully intend to make IMARA Zanzibar the BEST IMARA yet and will share more information about our plans in the coming weeks.
